The next, 9th international conference ‘Functional materials and Nanotechnologies’ will be organized by University of Latvia and held in Riga during September, 2014.

FM&NT-2013 conference welcome letter and travel guide

Dear participant/attendee of the FMNT 2013 Conference.

On behalf of Organizing Committee we warmly welcome You in old University Town Tartu.
Last year our Alma Mater celebrated its 380th anniversary. As you probably read from the
homepage of the Conference, Sunday, 21th of April the „Welcome Party“ will be held in the
Tartu University History Museum situated in the Toome Hill, roughly 1,5 km from
Conference site „Dorpat“.

The Conference site itself is located centrally in the town and there is a Shopping Centre
“TASKU”, Hotels and a bus station in the same location.

The University History Museum is not far from the Tartu University main building in area of
old Tartu. The map, for those who would like to walk there, is also available at the
Conference home page ( Unfortunately, there is no
possibility to use public transport to reach the Museum. For those, who think that this walk
could be an effort, we ordered also two taxis to reach the „Welcome Party“ site. In order to
use the taxis, please be in the lobby of hotel „Dorpat“ at 17.45. In the same time, there will
be a person who would lead the walking group all together to the University History
For participants, arriving through Tallinn, we would like to point out, that there are a lot of
busses from Tallinn to Tartu, but only ones leaving Tallinn bus station at full hour (i.e. 1x:00)
will pass the Tallinn Airport and then continue towards Tartu. A short explanation how to
buy the ticket in advance is also available at the Conference home page

To reach all other busses at the central bus station in Tallinn please use city bus Nr2 from
Airport level 0 or taxis (it costs ca 5‐7 EUR) from Airport level 1. If you use Tallinn taxis,
please verify the trip cost in advance and don’t take any taxi which asks you more than
7 EUR for this short trip.

Once more, we would like to welcome You in Estonia and have a nice trip to Tartu. The
spring is arriving late in this year like in many other places, but we are looking for
temperatures above 10C (day time) and a lot of sunshine, but it is still April weather.
Looking forward to see You in Tartu.

IOP conference series: Material Sciences and Engineering
We highly recommend that authors prepare their papers/PDFs using the MSE Microsoft Word or LaTeX2e templates, which can be downloaded from the following links:

Selected speakers will be invited to submit towards a ‘topical special issue’ of
Physica Scripta, which is also published by IOP Publishing.

The deadline for submission of journal publications is 22. April 2013

The abstracts upload to FM&NT-2013 conference is prolonged until 25.02.2013 23:59!

Yesterday we have got an arrangement to have a bigger lecture room in conference center.
It was important, as the conference happens to be more popular than we expexted – until 21.02.2013 where uploaded 247 abstracts.
But now we can reopen / prolong the abstract submission until Monday, 25. February (23:59).
